Sodium sulfide (yellow flakes)
Sodium sulfide is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula Na2S. When exposed to air, sodium sulfide releases the highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas with a rotten egg smell. Applications of sodium sulfide: In the dye industry, it is used to produce sulfur dyes; in the printing and dyeing industry, it serves as a dyeing assistant for dissolving sulfur dyes. In the paper industry, it is used as a cooking agent for paper. In the textile industry, it is used for denitration of synthetic fibers and reduction of nitrates, as well as a mordant for dyeing cotton fabrics. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to produce antipyretic drugs such as phenacetin.
