Anhydrous ferric chloride

Iron(III) chloride (FeCl3), also known as ferric chloride, is the chloride of trivalent iron. It exists in anhydrous and hexahydrate forms. It is deliquescent and soluble in water. Anhydrous iron(III) chloride is a strong Lewis acid and can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It is commonly used for etching, especially printed circuit boards and stainless steel, and also in wastewater treatment to remove heavy metals and phosphates from water.
