Sodium sulfite (chemical formula: Na2SO3) is an inorganic compound. At room temperature, it is a white granular powder that gradually oxidizes to sodium sulfate when exposed to air. It can exist in three forms: anhydrous, heptahydrate, and decahydrate, with the anhydrous form being the least susceptible to oxidation. Sodium sulfite can be used as a developer, a preservative for dried fruit and meat, a deoxygenating agent in the printing and dyeing industry, and as a reducing chemical reagent in chemical engineering and laboratory production and synthesis.
